Più
che Natale
Last Minute avrei dovuto intitolare questo post Natale Acqua alla Gola.
L’espressione
Mi
sono ridotta all’ultimo momento in tutto, come sempre.
in ritardo.
P.s.
Due to the delay I should have entitled this post
not Natale
Last Minute (Last Minute
Christmas) but Natale Acqua alla Gola
(Up to Your Neck in It Christmas).
However here there are my advices for the perfect
Christmas gift: my beloved photographic books.
For the moment we begin with the first six
headings to give and to receive (within 60 €); afterwards we’ll add the other
books.
TIM WALKER: STORY
TELLER
In
Alla Ansel - conosciuta all’epoca dell’assistenza a Richard Avedon e fortemente
storie, i suoi daydream: Alber Elbaz
A buon intenditor poche parole!
In our opinion the perfect Christmas book is
obviously this one. It’s unmissable and you can understand the reason reading
this post too.
In this large volume there is the very best of the
last seven years’ works: 175 pictures selected by the author with the
supervision of the art directors’ guru, Ruth
Ansel. If Ansel - known at the
time of the assistance to Richard Avedon - is the creator of the clean and airy
layout, Tim is the maker of the most
important thing, his stories, his daydreams: Alber Elbaz with a pair of rabbit ears or Agyness Deyn in the sand dunes of Namibia, an Eighteenth-Century Helena Bonham-Carter with Ray-Bans and
Diet Coke or Guinevere Van Seenus
ectoplasm version or again Karen Elson
crocodiles’ lover and the most part of the photos showed in the exhibition at Somerset House.
If we add the collages with the sources of
inspiration, the Polaroids and the snapshots from his personal archive, the
foreword by Kate Bush and especially
the afterword with the Tim’s
personal observations, the perfect gift is ready.

KATE: THE KATE MOSS BOOK
Guardando
The
Kate Moss Book viene da pensare che forse lo slogan virale “There is only one Kate in London” era
ingeneroso; “There is only one Kate in the world” sarebbe più aderente alla
realtà.
Primo
servizio a 14 anni, nella metropolitana di Londra; dietro la macchina c’è Corinne Day e gli scatti finiranno su The Face.
What about Kate
Moss?
Maybe that she is the greatest model of all time.
Or that she is the quintessence of coolness. Or that anything she does - to
walk the runway, to pose, to design an own clothing brand or to scandalize - is
perfect.
Looking at The Kate Moss Book it’s almost just
to think that the viral slogan “There is only one Kate in London” was
ungenerous; “There is only one Kate in the world” would be more exact.
At 14 years she modeled for her first fashion
editorial, in the London underground; behind the camera there was Corinne Day and the shots will be
published on The Face.

ANTONIO LOPEZ. FASHION, ART, SEX & DISCO
Probabilmente
sensualità e uno stile pop e flamboyant inimitabile.
irriducibili habitué della night life underground.
Esplosivo
Kamali, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Missoni e Versace.
Probably Antonio Lopez was the greatest fashion
illustrator of the second half of the 20th century.
Incredible artist, Antonio has been the illustrator who has changed forever the rules
of the game, introducing intensity, glamour, evident sensuality along with a
pop and flamboyant style.
In Paris - where Antonio lived seven years - he
contributed with Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent, he launched models like
Jerry Hall, Grace Jones and Jessica
Lange and was the inflexible habitué of the underground nightlife.
Gone back to New York in 1976, he strengthened his
reputation documenting with drawings and beloved Polaroids the sexy era of Studio 54. In these years, he worked
for Vogue,
Women’s
Wear Daily, The New York Times and the warholian Interview but also for
the campaigns of Norma Kamali, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Missoni and Versace.

JAZZ COVERS
a Davies, a Coltrane o a Monk, ci
sono praticamente tutti i grandi, così come i musicisti sconosciuti persino
agli appassionati.
Ogni
fotografo.
Jazz Covers is hunky
dory for jazz fans but its charm and refinement make it fascinating to
everyone.
These two volumes include a wide selection of the
most beautiful jazz covers from Forties to the early Nineties. From Mingus to Davies, to Coltrane or Monk, there are all the big as well as
the unknown musicians.
Each cover is accompanied by a technical file with
the album’s details, included the art director and the illustrator or the
photographer.
A
The covers fluctuate between provocation and
madness, graphic elegance and art, and talk not only about the musicians and
the LP but also about the period in which they were conceived.
An incredible fun for graphic and costume history
fans but especially for jazz lovers, who will adore the special contents: the
top 10 by famous Djs - King Britt, Michael McFadden or Gilles Peterson - and the interviews
with mythical personalities like Rudy Van
Gelder (sound engineer for Blue Note, Impulse and Prestige),
Creed Taylor (one of the best jazz
producers) or Bob Ciano (one of the
greatest cover designer).

COMING INTO FASHION
Prima
Helmut Newton e Deborah Turbeville, Ellen
von Unwerth e Corinne Day, Mario Testino e Paolo Roversi o ancora Peter
Condé Nast di New York, Parigi e
Milano.
Coming into Fashion is first of all a touring exhibition, opened in Berlin (at C/O Gallery)
in August 2012, that in January will arrive in Milan. In this volume the best
of 100 years of fashion photography signed Condé
Nast is condensed.
It starts from Edward Steichen (1911) - officially the first fashion photographer -
continuing with other 84 legendary names who gave life to unforgettable shots
thanks to the collaboration with art directors like Diana Vreeland and Alexander
Liberman. We are talking about Cecil
Beaton and Irving Penn, Horst P. Horst and Erwin Blumenfeld, David
Bailey and Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton and Deborah Turbeville, Ellen
von Unwerth and Corinne Day, Mario Testino and Paolo Roversi or Peter
Lindbergh and Albert Watson,
whose first snaps have been gathered by Nathalie
Herschdorfer with a considerable research in the Condé Nast archives of New York, Paris and Milan.
Finally there also are an interview to Franca Sozzani and essays by Olivier Saillard and Sylvie Lécallier from the Musée
Galliera.

MARIO TESTINO. PRIVATE
VIEW
Fotografo
stesso, Mario Testino - a quasi 60
luminosa.
Hyperglamorous fashion photographer and portraitist
beloved by the jet set, Mario Testino
has been acclaimed with diverse exhibitions and a dozen of books. On the
occasion of the show in June at Today Museum Art of Beijing, Taschen has published the book of the
same name Private View.
300 pages of studio portraits, candid shots,
fashion works and advertisings illustrate perfectly the glossy but natural
style that makes famous the ex boy from Lima. From Gwyneth Paltrow clutching her freshly-won Oscar to Keith Richards and Mick Jagger hugging each other, from black Lady Gaga (also in cover) to Kate
Moss surrounded by the Queen’s Guards, from Madonna portrayed for the Ray
of Light cover to Lady D in the
pictures that - before her death – have consecrated forever her gracefulness
and bright beauty.
